As the job market becomes tougher to find suitable candidates, more employers are opting for potential candidates to address a set of key selection criteria. A well-written and correctly structured selection criteria letter can immensely help with reaching the interview stage and surpassing other applicants.

COMMONLY USED IN GOVERNMENT

Key selection criteria are mainly used in the Perth public sector by government agencies at all levels including local, state and federal government in Western Australia. Candidates who write good responses are usually the first ones to be considered.

For example, many jobs advertised by the Australian Government are listed on the Australian Public Service website.

We take the stress out of having to write up responses to key selection criteria. We can have the responses completed within 2-3 business working days, depending on our current workload.

Here are some sample responses to give you an idea of our work.

Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain productive working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders that ensures successful cooperation and partnerships is an integral component of this role.

I believe that it is very important to cultivate productive relationships in the workplace. A commitment to doing so demonstrates professionalism, fosters cooperation and nurtures future opportunities with both internal and external stakeholders.

I possess highly developed interpersonal skills that contribute to my ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of people. I believe that communication, guidance, mentorship, leadership and prioritisation are salient to fostering productive relationships and I use these skills on a daily basis in the workplace.

My previous professional experience has seen my take strategic responsibility for the planning, implementation and monitoring of a wide range of projects, involving diverse stakeholders and teams of people across the community, public and private sectors. I recognise the importance that positive relationships play in the successful delivery of projects. Collaboration across diverse groups of people means that individuals are encouraged to bring their own personal strengths and experiences, which the wider organisation only benefits from.

In my role as the Coordinator at Shorten Institute, I was required to work on a complex project under the Shorten Youth Program. I was called upon to bring together all stakeholders including Portfolio Managers, Directors, Program Managers and the CEO to provide consultation opportunities and identifying ways through which we could increase youth engagement.

We identified that the best course of action was to put together a tailored youth employment program, focusing on the development of pertinent skills for young people looking towards full-time employment. My role in developing and sustaining stakeholder relationships extended beyond the consultation phase to a key position in marketing and promoting the program to agencies and industry stakeholders. In addition to this, I nurtured valuable relationships with both students and agency providers

The program was certainly a success; I established a working partnership with Business Entity whereby they reached out to students following completion of their traineeship. My extensive recruitment campaign resulted in a significant increase in student intakes across the mining, business, retail, banking and public sector.

This is just one example of the many times that I have demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills in order to improve project outcomes. I enjoy working with others to form positive workplace relationships and believe I possess an innate ability to cultivate professional partnerships that could be of great advantage in this role.

IMPORTANCE OF HAVING WELL WRITTEN AND CONCISE RESPONSES

Well written responses to key selection criteria are those that will draw and hold the employer's attention. We take the hassle out of having to write responses to selection criteria. With a few minor tweaks, you can use the responses again and again as you need to for future applications, assuming the roles are very similar.

We consider who will be reading your application and what they are looking for in a suitable candidate. That's why we incorporate what the employer is asking for in the job advertisement and align your experience and skills accordingly.

OUR APPROACH

When addressing each criterion, we aim to include at least 1 – 2 examples that demonstrate how you meet the requirements.

Apply for jobs in Perth with confidence. Every response to the critical selection criteria that we write will be individualised and personalised. You can include the answers into future cover letters to further bolster your application. If you need additional responses written as time goes by, we are ready and willing to assist you.

We also aim to follow the 'SAO' approach when incorporating an example. We do this by addressing the "Situation"; "Action" and "Approach".

USING THE RESPONSES FOR FUTURE APPLICATIONS

You can always reuse the letter addressing the selection criteria that we write for you again. But make sure you tweak the answers to suit.
