Finding work during a recession is generally more difficult than in stronger economic conditions.

Recessions are a period of low economic activity and higher unemployment.

Fewer job opportunities

When the economy slows down, businesses often reduce hiring or delay recruitment. This leads to fewer roles being available.

More competition

At the same time, more people may be looking for work, which increases competition for each role.

Where opportunities still exist

Some industries remain more stable, including healthcare, essential services, logistics, and trades.

Flexibility helps

Being open to different roles or industries can improve job search outcomes during a downturn.

While it can take longer, people do still find work during a recession with a consistent approach.
