So you're busy working at your desk and your colleague decides to play their music - but not just any music, and not just at any sound level - but loud music and that which would be typically played in a nightclub.
For many people, they find this off-putting. It can be distracting and annoying, making it hard for you to focus.
So, faced with this situation, what can you do?
Well, you can either put up with it and try your best to ignore the background music. Or, you can approach your colleague subtly and ask them to turn it down or off.
Should you choose the latter option, my suggestion is to approach your colleague quietly and privately, asking them in a discreet manner if they can turn down or off the music and why. This should help and encourage them to do the right thing as it is good office etiquette to be mindful of others.
It also helps to promote a cohesive and supportive workplace environment. Nobody wants to work in a workplace where everyone is afraid to speak up or have to put up with little things that may be nothing to some, but very distracting and annoying to others.
