What is a company looking for when they review my CV?

Submitting an application can be overwhelming but knowing what an employer is looking for is another thing. When your resume and cover letter is being reviewed, an employer or recruiter is screening your application to verify whether if you are a suitable candidate to interview or not. They will be looking to see if you meet the company’s needs and job criteria.

Applying early for the position will go in your favour. The first few applications are more likely to be read thoroughly, and time spent on them, but less time is spent if there are many competing for the job. Don’t fret if your application isn’t first; it is more important to make sure your documents are easy to read. Ensure the cover letter is tailored, and your resume markets you successfully with your range of skills and experience applicable to the position.
