So, for a while now, you haven't been performing at your peak. For various reasons. Your employer approaches you explaining that targets need to be reached and that performance statistics over the past few months have not been the best.

These situations are never easy. It's challenging to say the least to deal with, and often, we can conclude that performance isn't going to improve and we have not idea what to do.

But that's not always the case. We may let our emotions override any logical thinking as to the best course of action to take.

Listening to what management have to say, taking into consideration their feedback and suggestions, can certainly help as opposed to taking any feedback as critical. Focusing on the task at hand and what needs to be done is important and vital.

Staying focused, in control and mindful of the whole situation can indeed help. Performance management shouldn't necessarily be viewed as something negative. Rather, considering what needs to be done and what can be done to improve performance helps you to stay positive and motivated.
